Hamdan medical Award allocates 2 million AED to fund 10 scientific researches
Dubai 30 July 2017: Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for medical sciences, allocated 2 million AED to fund 10 scientific projects from the United Arab Emirates University, University of Sharjah, New York Abu Dhabi University, and Dubai Health Authority, this bring the total number of the studies funded by the award, since it`s establishing in1999 until now to reach 132.
This was stated by His excellency Abdullah bin Souqat the executive director of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Award for medical sciences, who conveyed sincere thanks and gratitude to H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Deputy Ruler of Dubai, the UAE Minister of finance and the patron of the Award for his continuous support to the science and scientists in general and to the scientific research specially.  
This valuable support contributes to the establishment of research infrastructure in the health sector and medical sciences in the UAE.
His excellency pointed to the award leading role as it was the first local organization contributes in funding medical research at the local level, and it has the largest role to build a staff of special national researchers in UAE.
His excellency also thanked the members of the scientific committee of the award for their efforts in the progress of sorting the researches and the selection of the unique topics.
It worth to be mentioned that the researches has been selected through the evaluation of local committee to sort the researches the evaluated by specialized international committee in the fields of topics,10 studies have been selected to be funded by the award as their results are expected to promote the culture of scientific research and medical research, and that what UAE seeks to achieve through the development and upgrading of the health and medical sector in the UAE society.
The selected projects focus on the study of a number of disease suffered by many segments of society, which puts financial and Psychological loads on patients, society and the country in general, the selected projects were varied in their subjects …. the first project is for Dr. Abdelaziz Tlili from Department of Applied Biology, college of sciences, University of Sharjah on Identification of Genetic and Molecular Basis of hearing loss in two UAE affected families.
The 2nd study, Dr. Bashair Mohamed Mussa from, Basic Medical Sciences Department, college of medicine, University of Sharjah on Genetic and transcriptomic analysis of hyperlipidemia in Emirati patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus using saliva and blood samples.
The research by Dr. Alia Saeed Albawardi , College of Medicine and Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates University, deals with Novel molecular biomarkers of Genitourinary, Breast & Gynecological malignancies in United Arab Emirates population.
Also Dr. Abderrahim Oulhaj from, Institute of Public Health, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates University is going to investigate on Cardio-vascular risk predictions using joint modelling of longitudinal biomarkers and time to event data.
The 5th study is for Dr. Hadia Radwan, from, Department of CLINICAL NUTRITION AND DIETETICS, College of Health Sciences, University of Sharjah about Examining Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy, Infant Feeding Method, and Perinatal Mental Health among Women in United Arab Emirates: A Cohort Study.
The 6th study for Dr. Adel Bahgat Elmoselhi from, Basic Medical Sciences Department, college of medicine, University of Sharjah deals with Effect of Extended Higher Dose of Vitamin D Supplement on Endothelial Dysfunction in Adult Middle-Aged Obese and Vitamin D3 Deficiency Individuals in UAE Population.
The 7th study for Dr. Suleiman Mohammad Suleiman Eisa Al-Hammadi, Department of Pediatrics, College of medicine and health SceincesUnited Arab Emirates University will study Prevalence and Risk Factors of Atopy Among Emiratis.
Regarding the 8th study it is submitted by Dr. Bilal Ahmed from, Dubai Diabetes Center, Dubai - U.A.E.  DHA deals with Effect of Melatonin on Glucose levels in Diabetes Mellitus Type 2: a randomized controlled cross-over trial.
The research by Dr. Narchi Hassib , Department of Pediatrics, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates University. studies The effects of glucose deprivation on cellular respiration and bioenergetics in murine brain tissue.
Finally, professor. Galadari Sehamuddin, from biology section, New York Abu Dhabi University, will Study on molecular mechanisms of Sanguinary induced necroptosis in human colorectal cancer, a path to developing better anticancer therapeutics.
