Emirates Endocrinology Congress 2010 begins today 14 December 2010
Under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance Emirates Endocrinology congress 2010 will start its activities today (Tuesday) morning at the Intercontinental hotel in Dubai Festival City.
 
The 3-day congress comes as a part of the activities of 6th Dubai International Conference for Medical Sciences.
 
Dr. Abdul Razzaq Al-Madani, President of Emirates Diabetes Society said that he is proud of constructive and fruitful cooperation between Emirates Diabetes Society and Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences.
 
“Diabetes is the theme of 6th term of international awards of sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences”, he said.
 
He said that Emirates Endocrinology congress 2010 is a good example of unification of efforts and coordination among all bodies in health sectors to achieve the best possible results.
 
He added that 25 keynote speakers will participate in the conference from United States of America, Australia, France, Germany, United Kingdom and Spain.The congress will hold 38 sessions and 17 workshops with the presence of more than 1500 doctors and researchers.
 
Dr. Al Madani said that scientific sessions of the congress is characterized with strong participation of pioneers of diabetes in the world who won Hamdan International Award for Medical Sciences i.e. Professor Paul Zimmet – Australia, Prof. Jacco Tumilto –Finland, Professor John A. Canes - United Kingdom, Dr. Jeffrey M. Freedman-USA and Professor B. Reed Larsen - United States of America.
 
Dr. Al Madani noted out that the congress will cover different aspects of epidemiology and management of diabetes, with a specific focus on cutting edge information and the results of recent developments in this field.
 
“There will be scientific sessions addressing the growing prevalence of diabetes in the United Arab Emirates, the impact of diabetes as the world’s greatest public health challenge, the role of science in the battle to overcome the global diabetes epidemic, the challenge of type 2 diabetes in the young population, promising new strategies in the treatment of type 1 diabetes, and cardiovascular risks associated with diabetes, such as hypertension and hyperlipidemia”, he said.
 
“There will be diabetes updates session covering new insights into the development, diagnosis, practice guidelines, and novel strategies in the management of diabetes”, he added. He referred to that: aside from diabetes we also look forward to having the opportunity to include and expand upon current Endocrinology topics in which we also notice a significant rise. Some of the leading international experts will explore different topics related to common endocrine disorders such as osteoporosis, thyroid disorders, obesity, and Vitamin D deficiency.
 
Dr. Al Madany noted out that as a part of the Congress there were will be 17 Workshops on variety of topics related to endocrinology and diabetes: review of common disorders in pediatric endocrinology, gestational diabetes, resistant hypertension, Insulin pump therapy, Polycystic ovary disease, and role of diabetes education, Exercise as a treatment for diabetes, Insulin injections techniques, recent advances in Osteoporosis, management of thyroid dysfunction, relationship between hypogonadism and diabetes, and management of pituitary tumors. Such workshops will give the physicians and healthcare providers a forum and opportunity to exchange knowledge, professional expertise and engage other professionals.
 
“We seek to have a successful Congress to raise awareness about the latest best practices and medical breakthroughs that help to join forces with the international medical community to build a broad awareness, prevent, and adopt the latest treatment protocols for endocrine disorders and diabetes. We hope to gain further in terms of international expertise and knowledge when Dubai hosts the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Congress in 2011” he also said.
 
It should be noted that 6th Dubai International Conference for Medical Sciences has kicked off last Sunday with the theme of diabetes mellitus in conjunction with the ceremony of the sixth term of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences.
 
Emirates Endocrinology congress 2010 is the third event during the diabetes week which kicked off with MENA diabetes forum and was followed by the ceremony of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences.
