Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences participated in the FIRST ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH FORUM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SHARJAH. 18 May 2005
Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences participated in the First Annual Scientific Research Forum at the University of Sharjah organized by the Research & Studies Center, University of Sharjah on 14th & 15th May, 2005. H.H.Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and the Supreme President of the University of Sharjah inaugurated the event.
 
In the Scientific Exhibition, there were a number of exhibitors from the various units of the University along with other entities. The University of Sharjah giving importance to the scientific research which gives more knowledge and developments in scientific applications. Sheikh Hamdan Award for Medical Sciences is also on the same track with two objectives of encouraging the institutions dedicated to research and scientific method in the United Arab Emirates & Arab world and also to support distinctive medical research conducted in the United Arab Emirates.
 
Sheikh Hamdan Award for Medical Sciences has already funded more than 36 projects in UAE within a span of 3 awards and out of which almost 10 projects are completed and published their manuscripts in the Emirates Medical Journal. The surprising and more important fact is that among the completed funded projects by the Hamdan Awards, two published manuscripts from that has been selected and awarded as the best original research articles published in the Emirates Medical Journal from UAE.
 
Two projects among the 36 projects funded by Hamdan Awards are being conducted in the College of Health Sciences, University of Sharjah.
 
Research is essential if progress is to continue to occur. Hence, Sheikh Hamdan Award for Medical Sciences has introduced 2 awards for supporting the Scientific Research in the country. One is the Hamdan Award to Support Medical Research In the United Arab Emirates and the Second one is Hamdan Award for Original Research Paper published in the Emirates Medical Journal. 
 
The objectives of these two awards are to encourage individuals working in the UAE to undertake medical research and to publish the results in the Emirates Medical Journal. This will enrich the journal with medical subjects of high scientific value and thus enable doctors in the UAE and elsewhere to keep abreast of new medical knowledge. Secondly, to encourage and support research work in health and disease relevant to the local environment and population, thus helping to identify major local health problems and finding suitable solutions to overcome them.
