DIAD-DIAL Meeting Commences its Second Day 02 March 2018

The events of the Second Edition of the Dubai international Academy of Dermatopathology and the Dubai International Academy of Laser and Aesthetic Dermatology Dual Meeting carry on into their second day, wherein Professor Eduardo Calonje, previous President of the British Society of Dermatopathology and leader of major developments in dermatopathology, will deliver a talk on the microscopic examination of skin and tissue, as well as the categorization of non-threatening and threatening skin pigmentation conditions, such as melanoma. A workshop on dermoscopic techniques that do not require skin-sampling will also be held.

Dr. Faiza Al Ali, Dermatologist and Dermatopathologist at the Dubai Health Authority, and Chairman of DIAD-DIAL, added that the Meeting will be welcoming, for the first time, Dr, Tammy Ferringer, Head and Fellowship Director of Dermatopathology at Geisinger Medical Laboratories in the United States. She will be discussing skin interactions with certain medications, as well as microscopic changes in skin cells infected with contagious skin conditions. She will also discuss developments in skin tumour research for 2018. She has stressed the important role of medical conferences and workshops in enhancing the medical scene in Dubai and encouraging the collaboration of practitioners in the city with others around the world.

Dr. Abdullah Bin Sougat, Executive Manager of the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, praised the efforts taken in preparation for the conference, and added that the attendance of specialists from all countries of the world is a reflection of the Dubai’s ever-continuing journey in realizing itself as a hub for scientific research and development.

Dr. Reem Al-Bahtami, Consultant Pathologist and Dermatopathologist, and Director of the International Dermpath Consult in the UAE, added that DIAD-DIAL has raised the bar for clinical research. On the other hand, representatives of DIAL discussed techniques and developments in laser procedures in 2018. Among them Dr. Sami Al-Suwaidan, President of the Saudi Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery, and Associate Editor of the Journal of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery.

It is noteworthy that DIAD-DIAL will be welcoming for the first time in Dubai, Montreal-based, world-renowned cosmetic surgeon Dr. Arthur Swift, who is considered as one of the founding fathers of cosmetic surgery and who has numerous techniques to his name, such as the Swift Lift, a non-surgical facelift procedure. He will be delivering workshops and lectures focused on avoiding dangerous complications associated with facial injections. He will be accompanied by Dr. Raj Akila from the United Kingdom, who will be participating in DIAD-DIAL for the second time and is considered one of the most skilled cosmetic surgeons across the globe. Dr. Sabine Zenker, Munich-based dermatologist, will be delivering workshops on non- and micro-invasive cosmetic procedures, such as cannula treatment and platelet-rich plasma fillers.
