The 10th Dubai International Conference for Medical Sciences concludes its activities 14 December 2018
Dubai-14th December2018: The 10th Dubai International Medical Science Conference, organized by the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, concluded its events yesterday. The conference was held on two days at Roda Al Bustan hotel in Dubai.
 
Professor Yousef Abdul Razzaq, Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Award, expressed his satisfaction with this important event serving as a unique opportunity for the regional medical and healthcare sector to gain knowledge about the most important diseases affecting the musculoskeletal system.
 
Dr. Ahmed Al Hashemi, member of the Board of Trustees of the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Award for Medical Sciences, praised the unprecedented success of the conference, which received positive reactions from leading rheumatologists attending the conference.
 
The event saw 11 workshops that were held with the participation of a group of senior scientists and specialists in the field of musculoskeletal and skeletal diseases. The scientific program included 13 scientific lectures delivered by distinguished researchers, with the participation of the winners of the Grand Hamdan Award and the Hamdan Award for Medical Research Excellence, who presented the latest scientific findings in the field of musculoskeletal disorders. 
 
Professor Frederick Kaplan, winner of the Grand Hamdan Award, delivered a lecture on the progressive transformation of one organ system into another as a fundamental signature of fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP), an ultra-rare and catastrophic disorder of extraskeletal bone formation in humans.
 
The Hamdan Award for Medical Research Excellence winner Prof. Franklin Sim talked about his experience in Mayo Clinic on implementation of 3D printing in an orthopedic oncology practice, while Prof. Graham Hughes presented his insights on Hughes Syndrome.
 
In addition, Professor Vijay Goyal, a biology engineer from the Faculty of Engineering and Medicine, Toledo University, USA, and the third winner of Hamdan Award for Medical Research Excellence delivered a lecture about the importance for cooperation between surgeons and engineers to obtain innovative technology for spinal processing.
 
The second session of the conference included a lecture by Dr. Jamal Saleh, Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Conference, Medical Director and Head of Rheumatology at Dubai Hospital on Arthritis, while Dr. Hamira Pedasha Consultant Rheumatology and Director of Hamira Badasha Medical Center in Dubai discussed the subject of rheumatoid arthritis.
 
Prof. Munther Khamashta, Professor of Lupus Research Laboratory at St. Thomas Hospital, London, presented a lecture on Rheumatology, while Dr. Khadija Al-Jefri presented a lecture entitled "Skin Problems in Rheumatology".
It is worth mentioning that all conference participants receive 11.5 hours of CME credit hours approved by the DHA.
