Dubai-13th Oct 2019:  the first MENA-MYO Practical Teaching course in Myology started its activities yesterday at the Roda Al Murooj Hotel in Dubai. The course was organized by the Centre for Arab Genomic Studies (CAGS) under the patronage of the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences and the Institute of Myology in Paris. The course is endorsed by Treat-NMD, the Asian Oceanian Myology Center and the International Child Neurology Association. A number of specialists in the field of neuromyology from France and the Middle East provided the delegates with information on the latest innovations in the field of myology through interactive lectures and workshops.

Dr. Mahmoud Taleb Al-Ali, the Director of CAGS said that the organization of this course is the result of a fruitful collaboration between the well-renowned Institute of Myology and CAGS.  In its three days, the course covered topics on basic myology, muscular dystrophies, hereditary neuropathies, metabolic myopathies, genetic counseling, and novel therapies in neuromuscular disorders.

“We have received great interest in the course from local, regional, and international delegates and we hope that this will be the start of a series of myology courses as neuromuscular disorders are an important issue in our region”. He added

CAGS is also preparing for the 8th Pan Arab Human Genetics Conference, which will be held from 17th to 20th January 2020 at the Roda Bustan Hotel, Dubai. The focus of the conference in its 8th edition is on clinical genomics and the main topics to be discussed in the conference include neurodevelopmental disorders, metabolic disorders, dysmorphology, as well as population genomics and human disorders.
