Hamdan Medical Award Continues the Webinar Series on Covid-19 28 July 2020
Dubai-28th July2020: The Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences will continue the activities of its webinar series on Covid 19, through its second webinar, to be held on the 29th of July 2020, at 6:00 PM. Entitled “Diagnosis and Therapeutics of COVID-19”, the webinar will host talks from Prof. Matteo Bassetti, Professor of Infectious Diseases of the University of Genoa and the President of the Italian Society of Anti-infective Therapy, and Prof. Jean-Louis Vincent, Professor of Intensive Care at the University of Brussels and President of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine (WFSICCM).
 
The Award started this series of webinars in early July with a scientific program in cooperation with MBRU. This cooperation played a major role in the success of the webinar.
 
The first webinar discussed the topic of vaccine development, and featured talks by Prof Stanley Plotkin, Emeritus Professor of the University of Pennsylvania and Adjunct Professor of the Johns Hopkins University,, who talked about developing vaccines for difficult targets. For seven years he was the Medical and Scientific Director at Pasteur-Merieux-Connaught (now called Sanofi Pasteur). Professor Plotkin was the winner of the Hamdan Award for Medical Research Excellence – Vaccines in 2014. The previous webinar also featured Dr. Harriet Robinson, Emeritus Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at Emory University School of Medicine, who discussed the prospects of the SARS- COV- 2 vaccine. She is the developer of GeoVax's HIV/AIDS vaccine technology and is one of the world's leaders in HIV/AIDS vaccine research.
 
About 400 participants from the UAE and all over the world participated in the webinar, using the latest technologies to ensure the best communication standards are achieved, and the highest benefit is acheived. The webinar series is In line with the UAE strategy to maintain social distance to limit the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
 
His Excellency Abdullah bin Souqat, Executive Director of the Award, expressed his appreciation for the results of the first webinar, within the series of webinars, which aims mainly to raise awareness on medical aspects of Covid-19, due to its importance at the present time. In addition, the webinar series aims to empower healthcare workers to face the challenges facing the health sector and keep abreast of everything novel in this field. He also praised the strategy followed by the health authorities within the country and the major role played by all medical teams and cadres and all workers in the health sector in the country.
 
He also praised the efforts made by the team's work within the Award, starting from communicating with a group of the best scientists from all over the world in this field, and providing a rich scientific material, up to building the electronic platform for the event, and using the latest technologies to facilitate participation for everyone.
