Hamdan Medical Award to Hold its Third Webinar 17 August 2020
Dubai-thAugust 2020: The Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences will hold the third webinar in its webinar series next Monday, August 17, 2020. Titled “Pulmonary Pathology of Early Phase COVID-19”, the webinar will host talks from Professor John Nicholls, Clinical Professor in Pathology at the University of Hong Kong and Dr. Richard Russell, Consultant, and Senior Clinical Researcher at the Nuffield Dept. of Medicine at the University of Oxford. Prof. Nicholls was a principal member of the research team at the University of Hong Kong which isolated and identified the novel SARS coronavirus, associated with the global outbreak of 2003. Dr. Rusell is Clinical Director of the West Hampshire Integrated Respiratory Service and the founding Editor of the International Journal of COPD.
 
The second webinar in this series focused on the diagnosis and therapeutics of COVID-19, and hosted Prof. Matteo Bassetti, Professor of Infectious Diseases of the University of Genoa and the President of the Italian Society of Anti-infective Therapy, and Prof. Jean-Louis Vincent, Professor of Intensive Care at the University of Brussels and President of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine (WFSICCM).
 
With the participation of more than 800 registrants from all over the world, the webinar was also attended by H E Mirza Al Sayegh and H E Dr. Ahmed Al Hashemi, Members of the Board of Trustees, and H E Abdullah bin Souqat, Executive Director of the Award.
 
His Excellency Mirza Al Sayegh conveyed the greetings of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan to all the organizers of the event. He also expressed his happiness with the intensity of attendance and tangible interaction from the participants during the webinar.
 
His Excellency Abdullah Bin Souqat thanked the Ministry of Health and Community Protection, DHA, and Abu Dhabi Medical Services Company – Seha and Emirates Medical Association, for their contribution to the success of previous and current webinars. He also stressed the importance of cooperation between the Award and the national authorities concerned with the advancement of the medical sector in general and scientific research in particular, which is one of the Award's most important priorities.
