Dubai-4th October 2020: The Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences held a public webinar titled "Living with Heart Failure" on Tuesday, 29 September 2020. Heart failure is a chronic, progressive condition in which the heart muscle is unable to pump enough blood to meet the body`s needs for blood and oxygen. Coinciding with the celebration of the World heart Day, the webinar attracted the presence of about 300 participants.

The webinar hosted a talk by Dr. Arif Abdullatif Al-Mulla, Chair of the SEHA Cardiac Council and Division Chief of Adult Cardiology at the Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, and was moderated by Dr. Nooshin Bazargani, Consultant Cardiologist, and Vice President of the World Heart Federation, as well as Chair of the CVD prevention working group of the Emirates Cardiac Society.

On his part, Dr.Arif said, “At the end of the day, we, physicians, are in the business of taking care of patients. It makes me happy to see that you follow with the appropriate heart failure specialist and you educate yourself about the disease, so that you can take charge of your own heart health once you have been diagnosed with heart failure”.

Dr. Nooshin stressed that heart failure could be the final pathway for patients who have heart attack, hypertension or diabetes. Controlling risk factors can delay or prevent heart failure.

His Excellency Abdullah bin Souqat, Executive Director of the Hamdan Medical Award, expressed his happiness with the success of the webinar and the interaction of the attendees with the speakers. He also stressed that organizing this webinar comes within the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance, with the aim of enhancing communication between doctors and patients during the Covid-19 pandemic.
