The 8th Emirates Physiotherapy Conference kicks off 15 October 2022

Dr. Ahmad Al Hashemi  Board Member Trustees of the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Science, inaugurated the 8th Emirates Physiotherapy Conference (PhysioUAE 2022) on 15thOctober 2022 at Conrad Hotel.

The 8th Emirates Physiotherapy Society conference is held under the patronage of the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Award for Medical Science, and is supported by the Dubai Health Authority, the Dubai Economic and Tourism Department, Emirates Health Services, the University of Sharjah and Gulf Medical College. The conference was attended by Mr. Abdulla Bin Sougat the Chief executive officer Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid AlMaktoom Award for Medical Science, Dr, Ahmed Bin Kalban the Chief Executive Officer in Dubai Health Authority, Tracy Bury, the Deputy of Chief Executive Officer of World Physiotherapy; representing Dr. Emma Stok who is the president of the World Physiotherapy Congress, and Dr. Moza Al Sharhan, the president of the Emirates Medical Association. 

 

In his opening speech, Dr. Ahmed Al Hashimi stated that the support of the “Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences” to this conference is one of the main goals that the award offers and goes in line with UAE’s leadership to foster and support medical and health sciences. This support is in line with the late Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s vision of supporting all medical and health sciences. He was a keen advocate for science, scientists, and researchers. He was a renowned patron of health services at the local, regional and international levels. The awards legacy as a patron of the medical and health sciences will continue to support scientific research worldwide.

The Chairperson of the Conference and the President of Emirates Physiotherapy Society Naima Saleh  said the scientific committee created a diversified program that addresses musculoskeletal disorders, sport injuries, and chronic pain. Therefore, we invited renowned worldwide speakers to present and share their latest research and evidence-based practices in the field of physiotherapy rehabilitation.  Four hundred and fifty participants had registered for the conference, who were from various regions in the world, including the UAE, region, Europe, and Africa. The conference will also discuss the increased role of the physiotherapists in the healthcare services and their pivot role in delivering patient treatment and rehabilitation.

 

Mrs. Amal Al Shamlan the Chairperson of the scientific committee revealed that committee prepared a rich scientific program with 18 presentations. The conference will discuss the sport injuries related to Anterior Cruitiate ligament rehabilitation, knee pain in adults and adolescents to understand the source of pain and how to prevent it.

Mrs. Amal AlShamlan also stated the conference will discuss the mental health issues related to brain concussions in sport injuries and it’s on balance in athletes and cognition in general. The role of physiotherapist in concussion management in relation to balance will be highlighted, and its positive impact on physical and mental health in those suffered from concussion.

Another aspect of the conference was the discussion of using smart applications in physiotherapy programs and its influence on adherence to home therapeutic programs and treatment plans.
