Personal Details and Academic Background

Dr. Ahmad Abdulaziz Al Jaziri is a consultant in general and laparoscopic surgery. He is one of the leading Emirati physicians in UAE. Dr. Al Jaziri obtained his MD from Cairo University in 1985, and then he joined the Department of Health and Medical Services, currently known as Dubai Health Authority. After that he started his specialization in general surgery (1986-1989). He moved to Germany  between 1989-1995 for further specialization in surgery  and laparoscopic surgery. He received both the European Board of Laparoscopy and the German Board as a consultant surgeon in 1995. Dr. Al Jaziri returned to UAE to head the Surgery Department at Dubai Hospital in 2001. He is well known for being very industrious and conscientious when it comes to taking care of his patients.
 

Responsibilities and Professional Milestones

As well as heading both the Physician Promotion Committee and Organ Transplantation Committee at Dubai Health Authority, Dr. Al Jaziri occupies currently a number  of key positions at Rashid Hospital in Dubai; namely, Head of Surgery Departments, Head of Ozone Department, Head of Electroacupuncture Department, member of the Heads of Departments Committee, Deputy Chairman of the Treatment Abroad Committee. Additionally, he is a member of Emirates Medical Association (EMA) and Dubai Club for laparoscopic surgery.

Dr. Ahmad Al Jaziri invented several medical devices,  which are used in laparoscopic surgery such as: “Clip  Applicator” that was patented in Germany in 1990 and “Jaziri Mosulator” for removing abdominal tumors in a non-invasive way and liver hydatid cyst resection. The list of Al Jaziri’s inventions includes; “Jaziri Laprob” for hernia surgery; “Jaziri Net Pusher” for suturing the abdomen, diaphragm after appendectomy, hysterectomy, and esophagus surgery. Furthermore, he invented “Jaziri FNA” for obtaining biopsies from external tumors, the  latter device saves time and effort significantly and it only  requires one doctor instead of two. His surgical inventions were depicted on many world-class scientific journals. Over and above that, the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh endorsed his work as the latest surgical technique for hydatid cysts resection. In 1994, he was awarded a specialist/ expert diploma in endoscopy by the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES), in recognition of his success in developing patented endoscopic devices. These devises helped to introduce new methodology into endoscopic surgery.

Al Jaziri combines great success with his administrative duties with constant self-development academically and clinically. Al Jaziri participated in many local and international medical conferences and workshops, to mention but a few; the 4th International Symposia on Ozone Applications in Cuba (2004),  International Medical Care and Diagnostic Conference in Dubai  (2005) and the Surgery conference in Dubai in the same year.

In addition to his work as a surgeon, Al Jaziri specialized in clinical protocols in Ozone therapy and obtained a Diploma for that from University of Ancona, Italy, then he specialized further in this field and got the “Ozone therapy” Certificate from Germany in 2003. He is also a certified therapist in electroacupuncture from  Germany in 2003. He obtained a certificate of Ozone therapist/ physician from University of Ancona in Italy (2004). Since 2002, he has been working in the Alternative Medicine Department - Ozone Therapy, at Rashid Hospital in Dubai. Additionally, he commenced working at the electroacupuncture clinic in 2003.

He has contributed in developing training programs in laparoscopic surgery for doctors and medical students in all DHA hospitals, and his efforts are still ongoing.


Recognitions and Awards

In 2004, he was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Mohammed bin Rashid Charity and Humanitarian Establishment in recognition of his participation in the Establishment’s campaign to rescue the victims of Bam earthquake in Iran. He was also awarded a Certificate of Merit by Health and Medical Services Department of Rashid Hospital in Dubai for his outstanding administrative  performance, in addition to his impressive compilation of  inventions and patents in surgery and his constant efforts for self-development.

Dr. Al Jaziri enjoys unique characteristics that enabled him to be a first-class manager and an extremely successful surgeon. He also possesses an obvious aptitude for innovation and invention. His professional achievements have made great impact on the  surgical medical practice and reduced patients’ suffering and  treatment costs. In view of the above, Dr. Ahmad Abdulaziz Al Jaziri was selected to receive the Sheikh Hamdan Award for Distinct Medical Personalities in UAE for the term 2013-2014.
