Professor Mohamad A Mikati is the professor and chairman of the department of pediatrics and adolescent medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Pharmacology and Biochemistry, Director of Adult and Pediatric Epilepsy Programme in the American University of Beirut. He gained his masters in 1980 from the University and started his carrier as a professional doctor. He has achieved in building the department of pediatrics at the American University of Beirut. He has played a major role in providing support to the medical community and introduced Epilepsy Programme in 1995. His researches focused on understanding of the mechanisms of neuronal injury secondary to seizures and methods to prevent them. 
 
In 1995 he established Neuropharmacology basic science research laboratory in the University. He is a winner of the Ambassador of Epilepsy Award. Recently he has received Hans Zellweger Award for his seminal contributions to the fields of Pediatrics and Pediatric Neurology. He is a member of several medical communities, societies, committees and associations. He has a very vast academic carrier and teaching experiences. He has more than 95 lectures and presentations in several international, regional and local conferences and meetings. He has referred publications of 149, non-referred journals chapters in books are 22, books and booklets are of 3, book review are of 6, 25 scientific reviews and more than 185 selected abstracts.
 
He is a member of the editorial board of more than 11 International Journals. He is an appointed reviewer of more than 29 International Medical Journals. His contributions to the medical community in the region are tremendous.
 
In view of the above contributions to the medical community in the Arab World and he dedicated his life time to the development of the Pediatric Epilepsy Programme which reflected Professor Mohamad Mikati to be the winner of the Hamdan Award for Honouring Distinguished Personalities from the Arab World for the term 2007-2008.
