Personal Details/ Academic bacground:
Professor Faisal received his M.B.B.Ch from Mansoura University, Egypt in 1980. He received his FACHARTZ in internal medicine and Nephrology from the Vienna Medical Academy of post Graduate Medical Education and Research in Austria in 1987. In 2002, he received his Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, UK. He is a Consultant Nephrologist at King Fahad General Hospital, Jeddah and the founder and Director of Jeddah kidney Center, King Fahad General Hospital and the Cofounder and Director General of Saudi Center for organ donation and transplantation and a Distinguished Professor at the National Institute of Organ Transplantation in California.
Scientific Achievements:
He established the Kidney Center in Jeddah in 1990, the largest kidney dialysis center in the Arab World which provide quality treatment for Dialysis patients .He is an outstanding contributor to regional and global organ transplantation training programs including organ transplant programs in the United States. Professor Faisal is among the most prominent Arab scientists in the field of organ transplantation. Most importantly, he has contributed to the development of scientific and research guidelines that cover the medical and ethical requirements as well as the regional and international policies for organ transplantation.
Dr. Faisal Shaheen has held many positions in his career. He is the first elected Arab president of the Global Organization for Organ Donation (GOOD). He is also the former president of the Middle East Organ Transplantation Society 2004-2006. He served as Director General of the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation, which is an exemplary center for kidney, heart, liver and corneal transplant procedures in the Islamic world. Since 1994, he has been the Executive Director of the Saudi Journal of Nephrology and kidney Transplantation as well as the associate editor of the Scientific Journal of the Middle East Society for Organ Transplantation since 2002.
Dr. Faisal has published many books in the field of kidney diseases, kidney stones and methods of prevention and treatment. He has published more than 280 articles in different languages such as Arabic, German and English. He has also presented more than 300 worksheets in local and international conferences as an invited speaker in more than 250 international conferences on kidney diseases and organ transplantation.

The Award of achievement from the Saudi Society for Kidney Diseases and Transplantation in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the field of kidney diseases

The Award of Dr. Ali bin Tawfiq Shousha from the Middle East Office for WHO -The Arab Republic of Egypt.
