Professor Lihadh AI-Gazali born in Baghdad, Iraq and a citizen of United Kingdom has obtained her medical degree from Baghdad University then trained in medical and clinical genetics at Edinburgh and Leeds universities. She moved to the UAE University in 1990 and has been working there since then. She independently established a credible genetics research and service in the UAE offering genetic counseling, education and support for families affected by a multitude of genetic diseases.
Prof. AI Gazali has been awarded a numberof distinctions and awards and the latest and prominent among is "Women in Science L'Oreal - UNESCO Award for Africa and Arab States in 2008. Prof. AI Gazali has done several research projects independently in the FMHS, UAE University and some are still going on. 
She also does collaborative researches with more than 14 countries on Genetics.
 
She had record of more than 73 abstracts and presentations in different scientific meetings and conferences regionally and internationally.
 
Based on the above remarkable healthcare services provided to the people of the United Arab Emirates by Prof. Lihadh AI Gazali, has been selected for the Hamdan Award for Honoring Individuals Working in the field of Medicine and Health. for the term 2007-2008.
