Mr. Abdul Ghani graduated from Cairo University in June 1971, on completing his required interning year he returned to Dubai. He was appointed as a Senior House Officer at AI-Maktoum Hospital and was later transferred to the newly opened Rashid Hospital. 
 
During his initial employment with the Department of Health Mr. Abdul Ghani honed his skills as a general surgeon mastering surgeries ranging from routine hernias, hydroceles and varicose veins. By 1974 he was performing several major procedures independently. 
 
Determined to furthering his abilities he proceeded to UK for postgraduate studies. Initially obtaining a primary fellowship in June 1975. The next eighteen months were spent at Bromley Hospital, Kent. There he gained experience in orthopedic and trauma surgery along with developing skills in the critical management of patients in Accident and Emergency.
 
In June 1977 he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons - Glasgow. 
On his return to Dubai he was appointed as a Registrar and shortly afterwards promoted to Senior Registrar in the Department of General Surgery at Rashid Hospital.
 
From then on he quickly began to introduce for the first time procedures such as Upper G.l endoscopy, total gastrectomies via thoraco-abdominal and abdominal approach, Highly selective vagotomy, Heier's surgery for cardiac achalasia, total thyroidectomy and partial parathyroidectomy. Mr. Abdul Ghani was the first surgeon at Rashid Hospital to use laproscopic removal of gall stones.
 
Mr. Abdul Ghani became Consultant in September 1980 and April 1981 saw the fruit of his diligence and administrative capabilities when he was appointed Directorof Rashid Hospital. A post where he managed a multi-disciplinary hospital which umbrellas the main trauma center of Dubai. Under his directorship the hospital also took on the role of a teaching center for Dubai Medical College for Girls.
 
Mr. Abdul Ghani was actively involved initially as a Senior Lecturer to eventually as Associate Professor of Surgery and Deputy Head of the academic department of Surgery. An ardent believer of the value of education and imparting that he was involved in teaching and graduating the first seven batches of the college.
 
In 2002 he was transferred from Rashid Hospital and made Medical Adviser to the Department of Health and Medical Services - Government of Dubai.
 
In recognition of his services and devotion to the field of medicine Mr. Abdul Ghani is awarded the Hamdan Award for Honouring the Individuals Working in the field of Medicine & Health, for the term 2007-2008.
