Hamdan Award for Honouring Individuals Working in the Field of Medicine & Health

Born in 1943 in Dubai, the late Dr. Mahmoud Kazim received both his primary and secondary education in India and went on to study dentistry at the end of the 1960s. Upon obtaining a Masters degree in dentistry from Britain, he worked at the Amiri Hospital in Kuwait in 1964 before returning to Dubai where he started his career at the Dubai Municipality's Department of Health. His efficiency and diligence led to his promotion to the position of Director of the then Kuwait Hospital (now Al-Baraha).
As such, he is a contemporary of the rise of the Union, the building of a new nation, and the unification of medical endeavors under the Federal Ministry of Health.
 
In 1981 he was appointed Director of the Dental Medicine Center affiliated with the Sharjah Medical District. He showed administrative excellence and helped introduce up-to-date treatment and surgery modalities. When he was appointed Director of the newly established Al-Amal Hospital in 1981, he worked very hard to establish a modern hospital.
 
He continued to run it until 1997 when he was re-instated as Director of Al- Baraha Hospital, a position that he retained until the year 2001.
 
Dr. Kazim had distinguished activities in the field of charity. He traveled to South-East Asia to initiate a series of charity work in Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia and Laos. He supervised the building of a number of mosques and religious schools and orphanages. He used to approach to Dubai merchants to raise money in order to render a variety of services to Muslims in that part of the world.
 
His lengthy experience in the medical field reflects unique variety and rich experiments extending over forty years. He was accordingly appointed as Counselor to the Ministry of Health in Dubai in 2001; a position he held until his death in 2003.
 
For these achievements, and in light of his lengthy service in the medical sphere, Late Dr. Mahmoud Abdullah Kazim deserves the Hamdan Award for honouring individuals working in the field of medicine and health for the year 2003-2004.
