I - Hamdan Award for Best Medical College/Institution or Centre in the Arab World
Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, Egypt Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, Egypt
Alexandria Faculty of Medicine is justifiably proud of its unique and historical association with the development of allopathic medicine and is clearly responding proactively to the challenge posed in the present century of the need for training of doctors for the future. In 1938, the nucleus of the Alexandria University had its beginning in the form of two satellite faculties of Fouad the First University. These were the faculties of Arts and Law. The faculty of Engineering was then established in 1941. In the light of the need for developing more disciplines for higher learning and with a view towards meeting the need of the people of Alexandria, Alexandria University, formerly known as Farouk University, became a separate entity in August 1942 with four additional faculties: Science, Commerce, Medicine and Agriculture. The Faculty of Medicine (FM) was established by RoyaL Degree No. 32 pronounced in August 1942 by King Farouk The First. Teaching started in the academic year of 1942-1943.
