Hamdan Award to Support Medical Research in UAE

The Secretariat is pleased to invite universities, research centres and Medical Scientific Societies in the United Arab Emirates to submit research proposals for funding. These funds are to encourage and support research work in health and disease relevant to the local environment and population, thus helping to identify major local health problems and finding suitable solutions to overcome them. The investigator is encouraged to publish the research (in part or in full) in the Emirates Medical Journal.

The categories listed below have been selected as priority areas for the year 2007-2008:

• TRAUMA
• CARDOVASCULAR DISEASES
• MALIGNANCIES

Research work related to other medical topics relevant to the UAE will also be funded. A total sum of AED Two Million (AED 2,000,000) is allocated for the Research Support

Terms & Conditions

• Detailed information on the proposed study, duration of study and the investigators should be provided on the standard form available with the General Secretariat.
• A letter from the employing authority approving the proposed study.
• Research & Ethical Committee approvals should be attached.
• The proposals submitted to the general secretariat shall not be returned.
• The last date for the receipt of application shall be on December 31, 2007
• Payments shall be made in installments on condition reasonable progress has been made.
• The General Secretariat reserves the right to reject any research proposal without giving any reasons.
• The General Secretariat reserves the right to stop the financial support at any time if conditions are not fulfilled.
• The General Secretariat reserves the right to ask for a refund if the financial support is used in other than the approved project.
• A periodic report (every 6 months) on the progress of the work, and the financial details during that period should be provided.
