Message from the Secretary General

Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences is the most prominent and prestigious award of its kind in the region. UAE can and should be really proud of being the motivating force behind the ongoing fast-paced medical research activities in the region.

Progress in the field of advanced medical research is the basic support line for creating a vibrant health service system. An award of this composition and stature could go a long way in initiating radical changes in the health service sector of the region in general and the UAE in particular. The Health Ministry is very proud to support this award and will continue backing this noble mission headed by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

My belief is that awards can only be symbolic at best. There are so many thousands of good doctors, scientists, and researchers doing outstanding work all over the world that it would be impossible for us to even know about all of them. The Awards, however, do provide us the opportunity to honour some of the dedication and hard work that improves the lives of human beings globally.

Science is an evolving, ever-changing body that needs us to constantly learn and update ourselves with the latest findings and techniques by meeting others and learning from them. The Awards enable our doctors to learn from the best of the best, and this experience is absolutely priceless.

Once visiting doctors have gone hack home, the Awards create a channel that is opened for future dialogue, opportunities for mutual cooperation and learning. Gradually, they have led to several Western Universities becoming aware of Dubai, their leading professors and doctors being regular visitors to the city and an enrichment of the local medical community.

The award is in the 7th term 2011-2012 and the main topic for this term is NEONATAL MEDICINE and the Main Theme of the Awards is PERINATAL MEDICINE.

In our awards there are three categories, International, Arab World & United Arab Emirates awards.

I hope these three categories of awards would inspire and encourage scientific researchers from all over the world to take part with their contributions by nominating the potential candidates for the awards.

On behalf of the Board of trustees, I take this opportunity to welcome all medical professionals, researchers, scientific institutions and universities to come forward to avail this wonderful opportunity by nominating their potential candidates and be a part of this award.

Sheikh Hamdan Award for Medical Sciences will always be in the forefront to honour the excellent Scientists.
