Hamdan Medical Award receives 60 research projects from UAE for funding 17 April 2012
Hamdan Medical Award announced that the Award’s Research Support Center has received 60 research projects from UAE for funding in its seventh term 2011-2012.

This was stated by Prof. Sehamuddin Galadari, Chairman of the Medical Research Grant Committee of the Award’s Center for Research Support.

"The successful research proposals which will be funded by the Award will be announced by the end of the year", Prof. Galadari said.

"I am so proud of the large number of submitted projects, which reflects great interest amongst biomedical researchers from medical institutions throughout UAE. Indeed, this number culminates the efforts exerted by the award, since its establishment in 1999 until now, in supporting the UAE health sector research", Prof. Galadari said.

"The presented medical projects, which cover many medical specialties, pass through a two stage evaluation process to select the best proposals impartially and transparently", he added.

"During the first stage, the Award’s Medical Research Grant Committee selects those proposals to be submitted for the second stage. The priority in the current term is for grant proposals on genetics and Epigenetics, Metabolomics and Nutrition, and Child and Women’s Health", he added.

"The Medical Research Grant Committee constitutes a group of specialized physicians and scientists; Prof. Salah Al-Dien Al-Nagi Gharib Allah, Prof. Frank Christopher Howarth, Prof. Youssuf Abdul Razzaq, Prof. Ernest Adeghate and Dr. Syed Ali Shah and Dr. Ghazi Tadmouri", he said.

"During the 2nd stage, the selected proposals are evaluated by a panel of International Reviewers", he added.

"Supporting the research grant proposals by the Award is not limited to the financial issues such as the salaries of the research assistants, chemicals and reagents. A significant moral support is given to the researchers through many channels", he added.

"One such channel is publishing the results of these papers in Hamdan Medical Journal, to take advantage of them in developing the health sector locally and internationally", he added.

Also, the award is keen on reaching with their results to the UAE decision-makers to be used as a guideline in formulating the future policies and strategic plans" Prof. Galadari added.
