Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Medical Award opens Regional Anesthesia Diploma in Dubai 15 January 2012
Within the framework of signing a cooperation agreement between Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences and Montpellier 1 University, France, Abdullah Bin Souqat the award's Executive Director opened today morning Regional Anesthesia and Analgesia Diploma's course (batch 2), with participation of 38 doctors from the Middle East, Switzerland, Cyprus and Philippines, at Ibn Sina Medical Centre in Dubai Healthcare City.
 
The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Nathalie Bernard, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Medicine, University of Montpellier 1, France, and Dr. Philippe Macaire Consultant Anaesthesia, Trauma Center, Dubai Rashid Hospital and the Diploma's General Coordinator.
 
During the opening ceremony, Bin Souqat expressed his pride of the Partnership Agreement, between the award and Faculty of Medicine, Montpellier 1University France, which is one of the most prestigious medical schools in the world.
 
"Organizing Regional anesthesia and Analgesia Diploma by the award is an important starting point in the history of the award, as it allows organizing a series of important medical events, approved by Montpellier 1 University, France, in the coming years, with the aim of training a large number of Arab and foreign doctors to improve their skills and provided medical services", Bin Souqat said.
 
Also, Dr. Mansoor Mohammed Yousef Nadhiri, Consultant at Anaesthesia and Pain management department at Dubai Rashid Hospital and Director of the diploma in Dubai, welcomed the participants, saying that there are significant exerted efforts behind hosting such medical Diploma in Dubai.
 
He added that the direct supervision from University of Montpellier 1, the excellent organization by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences and Dubai Health Authority's support, enhances the chances of the Diploma's success. 
 
Concluding the opening ceremony, Prof. Xavier Capdevila, a leader in Regional Anaesthesia and Analgesia, Faculty of Medicine, Montpellier 1 university, said that he is so happy to come to Dubai to teach in that diploma.
 
He said that holding Regional Anesthesia and Analgesia Diploma in Dubai witnesses an overwhelming response from physicians within and outside UAE. Participants' number in each batch exceeds participants' number in the same diploma in France.
 
He said that, for the first time in the region, the Diploma provides new approaches of medicine to improve the physicians' interactive skills with different cases according to the latest technologies.
 
The Diploma's participants' enthusiasm and active participation were noticeably appeared during the lectures. The students spoke about the importance of holding the diploma for the first time in the Arab region, and its benefits including saving efforts, time and money spent to attend similar diplomas in Europe and U.S.A. they also referred to the diploma's accreditation by medical institutions and organizations around the world.
 
Following the opening ceremony, Dr. Philippe Maciare said that Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Makotum Award for Medical Sciences will hold tomorrow evening (Monday) a big Inauguration Ceremony to honor the students of the 1st batch of the Diploma (2011), at Grand Hyatt Hotel in Dubai, in the presence of a group of senior officials of Consulate General of France in Dubai, Montpellier 1 University, Dubai Health Authority and UAE Ministry of Health as well as the members of the award's Board of Trustees and  scientific committees.
"There are tens of doctors on the waiting list for the next year's Regional Anesthesia and Analgesia Diploma. The number of the participants is growing. The 1st batch of the diploma (last year) included 31 doctors, and this year the number has increased to 38 doctors", He said.
 
It should be noted that Regional Anesthesia and Analgesia includes local Anesthesia, Acroanesthesia and Central Anesthesia. Regional Anesthesia is used during certain surgical procedures, because of its lesser side effects than general anesthesia. Also, it is used after surgery, helping patients to be back to their normal life without pain, and relieving severe pain of serious diseases such as Cancers.
