End of February is the deadline for submitting nominations for Hamdan Medical Awards 08 January 2012
Prof. Najib Al Khaja, Secretary General of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, has adopted extending the deadline for submitting the nominations for the 7th term of the award 2011-2012 until the end of next February, to give an opportunity for the candidates to fulfill the required documents. 
 
This was stated by Prof. Youssef Abdul Razzaq, chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Award who added that the award includes 8 awards with a total value of AED 2 million and 800 thousand.
 
He added that there are three categories of the awards: the International Awards, the Arab World Awards and the UAE Awards. The international Awards includes three awards, the first one is Grand Hamdan International Award, whose theme in the current session 2011-2012 is neonatal Medicine.
 
"The second award is Hamdan Award for Medical Research Excellence, which includes three main topics: fetal medicine, nutrition in infancy and inborn errors of metabolism", he said.
 
"The third award is Hamdan Award for Volunteers in Humanitarian Medical Services, and it is given to four winners, including persons and organizations who have provided important voluntary services and contributed to alleviating the suffering of a large number of human beings subjected to exceptional circumstances such as catastrophes, epidemics, famine, wars and natural calamities", he added.
 
"The second category is the Arab World Awards, which includes two awards. The first one is Hamdan Award for the Best Medical College / Institute or Centre in the Arab World, and it is given to two winners. The second award is Hamdan Award for Honoring Distinguished Personalities from the Arab World, and it is given to two distinguished personalities from the Arab world" Prof. Youssuf Abdul Razak said.
 
"The third category is the UAE awards, which includes three Awards. The first one is Hamdan Award for an Outstanding Clinical Department in the public sector in UAE, which is given to two winners. The second award is Hamdan Award for Honoring Individuals Working in the Field of Medicine and Health, and it is won by five winners who have dedicated their lives to support the medical field and the development of health services provided therein. The third award is Hamdan Award for Original Research Paper Published in Journal of Medical Sciences", he added.
 
Prof. Youssuf Abdul Razak referred to that, recently, he held a meeting with the members of the Scientific Committee and subcommittees of the Award, during which he reviewed the status of the award’s nominations and the rules and regulations adopted in the process of nomination, arbitration and the winners’ announcement to ensure the usual transparency and impartiality of the award.
