UAE is nominated to host World Orthodontic Congress 2020
 
Under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and Chairman of Dubai Health Authority, 10th  Arab Orthodontic Congress 2011concluded its sessions yesterday. The congress was organized by Emirates Orthodontic Society in cooperation with Arab Orthodontic Society and supported by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, UAE Ministry of Health and DHA.
 
Dr. Moza Tahwarah, head of the current term of Arab Orthodontic Society 2009-2011 and head of Emirates Orthodontic Society, said that on the sidelines of the final sessions of the Conference, the regular meeting of the Higher Committee for Heads of Arab Orthodontic societies was held during which UAE was supported to host World Orthodontic Congress 2020, which is held every five years, attended by 10000 to 13000 participants from various countries around the world and considered one of the most important global conferences in that field.
 
Also, during the meeting, Lebanon was selected as the host country for 11th Arab Orthodontic Congress 2013 and Palestine for 12th Arab Orthodontic Conference 2015.
 
Dr. Moza Tahwarah said that the meeting discussed the formation of Scientific Committee of the Arab Orthodontic Board, headed by Dr. Suleiman Omran, the head of Saudi Orthodontic Society, seeking the board’s adoption from Arab Health Ministers in order to take the responsibilities of supervising concerned Continuing Medical Education and issuing the Orthodontic Journal.
 
"Succeeding Dr. Sami Samawy, Dr. Kamal Kawasmah – Jordan was appointed as Secretary General of Arab Orthodontics Society", she added.
 
"During the meeting a committee was formed to study, within three months, the proposal by Saudi Orthodontic Society on gaining the Arab Society membership by local orthodontic societies’ members automatically.", Dr. Mouza said.
 
Dr. Moza Tahwarah chaired the meeting with the presence of representatives of the local Orthodontic Societies of UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Egypt, Sudan, Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria.
 
On the other hand, Dr. Nadia Al Qadi, Secretary of Emirates Orthodontic Society, praised 10th Arab Orthodontic Congress 2011 attended by 726 participants from various countries around the world.
 
She said that the conference has recommended the establishment of Arab Higher Orthodontists Authority and launching its web site, with a view to reducing the practice of non- Orthodontists to the profession. 
 
"The Conference recommended establishing the Arab Orthodontists Board and a center for Arab Orthodontics research ", she said added.
 
"The conference also recommended holding regular meetings between Orthodontists and Otorhinolarynologists seeking to find solutions for difficulties of breathing (oral breathing) resulting in an imbalance in the growth of jaws", Dr. Al Qadi said.
 
The conference also recommended the establishment of specialized centers for surgically treatment cases like cleft lip and palate.
