Hamdan Medical Award Supports the 10th Emirates Critical Care Conference 06 April 2014
Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance, President of Dubai Health Authority and Patron of Hamdan Medical Award, H.E. Eng, Eissa Al Maidoor Director General of Dubai Health Authority, Vice chairman of the board of trustees of Hamdan Medical Award and representative of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum inaugurated the 10th Emirates Critical Care Conference which was held in conjunction with 6th Asia Africa Conference of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive Care and Critical Care Medicine and the 10th International Pan Arab Critical Care Medicine Society Conference at the Event Center, Intercontinental Hotel, Dubai Festival City.
 
Supported by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences and organized by the Emirates Intensive Care Society in cooperation with the Dubai Health Authority and the International Pan Arab Critical Care Medicine Society (IPACCMS), the 3-days conference was held with the participation of 2000 doctors and specialists from 26 countries and110 speakers from the World Health Organization (WHO), World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine (WFSICCM), European Society Of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), Society of Critical Care Medicine of US, Australia New Zealand Intensive Care society (ANZICS), Korean, Japanese, Indian and Pakistani Critical Care societies, Turkey Critical Care Society, International Pan Arab Critical Care Medicine Society (IPACCMS), Egyptian Society of Emergency and Critical Care Medicine, Oman Society of Anesthesia and Intensive Care, Tunisian Society of intensive Care, alongside with the Global Sepsis Alliance (GSA) and Surviving sepsis Campaign (SSC).
 
The conference included 38 scientific sessions, 175 lectures and 7 workshops as well as a managerial course and a disaster management course, with a 27 CME hours accredited from the International Pan Arab Critical Care Medicine Society.
 
In his speech delivered in the opening ceremony, H.E. Eng. Eissa AL Maidoor said: “Holding the conference confirms the importance of communication and cooperation between the various medical associations and the activation of the local, Arab, and international experiences in the field of critical care in the shade of the amazing technical and scientific development in different medical sciences, particularly the global developments and changes require an immediate response and follow up from the physicians besides keeping up with the continuous developments in different medical specialties”.
 
 
 
After the opening ceremony, H.E. Eissa Al Maidoor inaugurated the accompanying exhibition with the participation of 35 companies which displayed the latest technologies in this field of medicine including equipments of the critical care units.
 
Prof. Dr. Hussein Nasser Al Rahma, conference chairman, president of the International Pan Arab Critical Care Medicine Society and the Emirates Intensive Care Society and Head of Critical Care Department, Dubai Hospital, said: The conference discussed many important topics such as the ethics of organ donation after brain death and making the decision to lift devices that keep patients alive in critical care units.
 
“The conference dealt with the latest research papers on management of various cases at Critical Care Units such as tumors, sepsis, respiratory diseases, neurological and kidney diseases, heart diseases including monitoring blood circulation and management of acute heart attacks, management of fluids and Hematological diseases, particularly hemophilia”, he added.
 
 “The conference discussed quality and safety in Critical Care Units, nutrition particularly for patients with acute liver failure, sedation and anesthesia in critical care units, nursing and the latest methods to reduce infection in critical care units”, he said.
 
During the closing ceremony, Hamdan Medical Award was honored for its continued support to the activities of the continuing medical education particularly the conference. Prof. Dr. Hussain Nasser Al Rahma delivered a commemorative gift of the conference to Mr. Abdullah Bin Souqat, Executive Director of Hamdan Medical Award.
 
Mr. Abdullah Bin Souqat said: Hamdan Medical Award supports the continuing medical education activities within the UAE, as one of its most important strategic objectives, with the aim of developing the professional performance of specialists locally and internationally.
 
“I am so happy for such an improvement in the conference, a year after year. It is a fruit of the tireless efforts exerted by the members of the conference's organizing and scientific committees and their eagerness to unify the efforts of many medical institutions in that field of medicine. Such efforts have been reflected on preparing a high-level scientific program to discuss the latest findings in that specialty from all over the world”, he said.
