Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences finished receiving the nominations for its 8th term 2013-2014, which are currently under the process of local and international evaluation in preparation for announcing the winners during the upcoming month of September.

 

Prof. Yousuf Abdul Razzak, Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, pointed out that the Award’s local main and sub scientific committees have completed the initial screening of the submitted nominations and selected the distinguished ones which have been transformed to the next stage of evaluation; the international review by a galaxy of international experts whose specialties fit with the topics of each award.

 

“The submitted nominations to the international committee are 6 nominations for the Grand Hamdan Award on drug discovery, 12 nominations for Hamdan Award for Medical Research Excellence on vaccines, targeted therapy and cell therapy, 6 nominations for Hamdan Award for Volunteers in Humanitarian Medical Services, and 4 nominations for Hamdan Award for the Best College / Institute or Centre in the Arab world”, he added.

 

“The nominations for the Hamdan Award for honoring distinguished personalities from the Arab world and Hamdan Award for honoring individuals working in the field of medicine and health within the United Arab Emirates are gathered through the recommendations received by the Award’s board of trustees from the Arab Ministries of Health, the UAE Ministry of Health and the UAE health authorities regarding those who have dedicated their life in service and support for the medical field regionally and locally”, Prof. Yousuf Abdul Razzaq added.

 

“The local scientific committees will study the results of the international evaluations, and it will be the basics of selecting the winners of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Awards for Medical Sciences”, he added.

 

Prof. Yousuf Abdul Razzaq praised the caliber of the members of the Award’s local scientific committees, who are well known for their expertise and efficient in the selected field of medicine. The scientific committee of Grand Hamdan International Award is chaired by Prof. Sherif Karam. Prof. Youssef Abdul Razzaq, Dr Abdu Adam, Prof. Salim Bastaki, Dr. Syed Salman Ashraf and Dr. Ayman Al-Rahmani are the members.

 

The scientific committee of Hamdan Award for Medical Research Excellence is chaired by Prof. Salah Gariballah. It is divided into 3 sub-committees. The members of the 1st committee, on the topic of vaccines, include Prof. Tahir Rizvi, Dr. Ian Blair, Dr. Farah Mustafa and Dr. Khan Gelovaraz as members. The members of the 2nd committee, on the topic of Targeted Therapy, are Prof. Tom Adrian, Dr. Sohail Salam, Dr. Samir Attoub and Dr. Ragheb Ali. The members of the scientific committee on the topic of Cell Therapy are Prof. Ernest Adeghate, Prof. Sherif Karam, Dr. Inaam Bashir and Prof. Tahir Rizvi.

 

The scientific Committee of Hamdan Award for Volunteers in Humanitarian Medical Services is chaired by Prof. Salim Bastaki, with the membership of Prof. Eric Mensah-Brown, Dr. Maria Cabezudo, Dr. Samir Attoub and Dr. Gulfaraz Khan.

 

Concerning the Scientific Committee of the Arab world Awards, it is chaired by Dr. Saad Ghazal Aswad and includes the scientific committee of Hamdan Award for the best medical college, institute or department in the Arab world with the membership of Prof. Abdu Adam, Dr. Fawaz Torab, Dr. Shamsa Alawar, Dr. Juma Al Kaabi, Dr. Fatima Al Maskari and Dr. Leena Amiri.

 

The scientific committee of the awards of the United Arab Emirates is chaired by Prof. Frank Branicki, including Hamdan Award for an outstanding Clinical department in the Public sector in the UAE. The members of the scientific committee of this award are Dr. Moza Alsharhan and Dr. Hatem Ahmed Abu Ghoneim Abbas. The Scientific Committee of Hamdan Award for the original research paper published in the Hamdan Medical Journal is headed by Prof. Omar El Agnaf with the membership of Prof. Youssef Abdul Razzaq, Prof. Abdul Qadir Souid, Prof. Christopher Howarth and Dr. Omran Bakoush.
