Dubai-30th December2019: Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences invites applications for funding of scientific medical projects from the United Arab Emirates, for its 11th term (2019-2020).

 

This was stated by His excellency Abdullah bin Souqat, the Executive Director of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Award for Medical Sciences, who conveyed his sincere thanks and gratitude to H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, the UAE Minister of Finance and the Patron of the Award for his continuous support to the science and scientists, and especially to scientific research.

 

Talking about the application procedure, he said, "All requests for support along with supplementary documents and papers are required to be submitted electronically through the electronic portal. This will facilitate researchers to submit the required papers in addition to taking all the necessary evaluation procedures for this research. The Award will also launch an advertising campaign to open the door to receive requests for research support. This campaign will target most academic institutions and research and therapeutic centers across all emirates, in order to provide as many researchers as possible with support requests.”

 

“The award recently allocated 2 million AED to fund 12 scientific projects from the United Arab Emirates University, University of Sharjah, New York Abu Dhabi University, and Mohammed Bin Rashid University.”

“The Award uses a rigorous scientific method to evaluate the submitted research, where the preliminary evaluation process begins through the research committee of the Scientific Committee and then other stages of evaluation of the scientific content follow by international arbitrators, each according to its specialization. The valuation process Takes into consideration the importance of the research presented to the Emirates community and the future of scientific research in the country, in addition to the possibility of using its outputs in the application and then finally to find its way to publish in major medical journals worldwide. To date research supported by the Award has resulted in nearly 600 publications, with 20% of this research receiving full financial support. He added

 

Prof. Sehamuddin Galadari, the Chairman of the Medical Research Grant Committee said, “The scientific committee is keen on choosing the local need in the health sector, and in its ruling it takes into consideration several factors; the most important of which is the importance and methodology of the research subject to study and the scientific merit of researchers. In order to ensure the quality of the arbitration, the Award uses international arbitrators in the second stage of the evaluation in order to sort out the most worthy projects.

 

"Scientific research is a pillar of development for societies, and scientific research in the health sector in the past twenty years has witnessed huge breakthroughs In the UAE. The Sheikh Hamdan Award is the oldest provider of scholarships in the medical and health field”, he added.
