The 9th Emirates Orthopedic Conference kicks off its activities in Dubai, attended by 600 doctors and ‎specialists 04 November 2021
 His Excellency Awad Saghir Al Ketbi inaugurated today morning the 9th Emirates ‎International Orthopaedic Congress at the Mövenpick Grand Hotel Al Bustan Dubai (Airport), in the presence ‎of more than 600 consultants, doctors, nurse and technician from the UAE and the region. The conference is ‎being hosted under the patronage of the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences ‎and organized by the Emirates Orthopaedic Society of the Emirates Medical Association. ‎
 
In his opening speech, Dr. Ali Al Suwaidi, Consultant Orthopedic surgeon and President of the Emirates ‎Orthopedic Society said, ”Our goal in this conference is to present and discuss the latest treatments of ‎orthopedic diseases, in addition to reviewing the latest innovations and scientific research made ‎worldwide during the past year.‎
 
In addition to this, the conference represents a platform for our physicians to interact with their ‎counterparts from all over the world, and meet and attend lectures in subspecialties that benefit all ‎participants, where the latest medical equipment and devices are presented in the sponsoring ‎companies pavilion. Moreover, international experts, who were unable to attend due to the Covid19 ‎pandemic, are also hosted via approved online applications.”‎
 
He also stressed that the UAE has been able to get through this current pandemic after a year and a ‎half, thanks to Allah, and to the preventive and precautionary measures that our beloved country ‎followed, upon the directives of our wise leadership in dealing with this pandemic that paralyzed the ‎entire world.‎
 
He explained that the topics that the conference will focus on this year include knee arthritis and ‎osteoarthritis and the latest treatment methods for these, including arthroscopy or joint replacement, in ‎addition to the methods of dealing with complications that may arise after undertaking such surgeries, ‎and developments in treatment of shoulder and knee sports injuries, especially torn ligaments in both. ‎The discussion will also address methods of dealing with failure of anterior cruciate ligament ‎reconstructive surgery.‎
 
He pointed that half a day was allocated for injuries and fractures of the elbow, wrist and hand, since ‎such majors are considered rare and require wide experience and high training. Therefore, international ‎experts are being hosted in this specialization to shed light on some of the diseases prevalent in the ‎upper extremity, Furthermore, half a day is also devoted to discussing Osteoarthritis, since this disease ‎is very common in the UAE.‎
 
‎“The Emirates Orthopedics society exerts a great effort in attracting international experts to provide ‎an opportunity for physicians with their counterparts from neighboring countries to exchange ‎experiences and knowledge in orthopedic diseases and discuss new and controversial treatments.‎
 
I would like my fellow physicians to take advantage of this valuable opportunity and commit ‎themselves to attending lectures, then reviewing and updating the methods of treatment followed in ‎their workplace in a way that will benefit their patients, I would like also to urge them to visit the ‎sponsoring company’s pavilions and check the latest medical equipment and devices”, he added.
 
In turn, His Excellency Abdullah bin Sougat, Executive Director of the Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al ‎Maktoum Award, expressed his happiness at the success of the conference and his pride in continuing ‎the path outlined by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum - may God rest his soul - to advance the ‎health sector, whether inside or outside the country.‎
