In line with the Global Prostate Cancer Awareness Month: Hamdan Medical Award supports the Prostate Disease Awareness Week 22 September 2013

Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences supports the week of the Prostate Disease Awareness Campaign organized by the Dubai Health Authority in collaboration with the Emirates Urology Society from 22 to 28 September 2013. 

This was stated by Mr. Abdullah bin Souqat, Executive Director of Hamdan Medical Award, after the activities of the opening ceremony of the campaign held this morning at Dubai Hospital, with the participation of Dr. Hussein Abdel Rahman, Medical Director of Dubai Hospital, Dr. Abdul Qader Al Zarooni, Head of the Emirates Urological Society and the coordinators of the campaign including Dr. Fariborz Bagheri and Dr. Yasser Farhat, the urology specialists.

Bin Souqat emphasized on the Award’s commitment towards supporting the important events in the community which contribute in raising the awareness among the public and in strengthening the preventive aspect against many diseases which is considered a big burden on the individuals, societies and health institutions.

“The campaign is held on the occasion of the Global Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. One of the objectives of the campaign is to raise the awareness of the people and the officials in the primary health care sectors regarding to the importance of the periodic testing and the early detection for prostate diseases in enhancing the cure rates of the disease. Also, the campaign encourages on the importance of the exercise and the healthy diet, rich in fruits and vegetables, to avoid the prostate diseases, particularly Prostate Cancer which is one of the most dangerous type of cancers and the most prevalent one in men”, he added.

“During the campaign, awareness lectures will be held for public, the brochures will be distributed in addition to conducting free medical examinations for those who would like to. The campaign is scheduled to visit Hatta Hospital, the Dubai Police Clinic as well as the primary health care centers affiliated to the DHA. Also, a scientific day for the urologists within the UAE will be organized, with the participation of two visiting doctors”, Bin Souqat said. 

It is noteworthy that the prostate diseases are considered one of the most common diseases among men worldwide. According to the latest statistics, there are a quarter of a million of men around the world suffer from the Prostate Cancer, among of which a man dies every hour.
