RAK Medical and Health Sciences University honors Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences 24 May 2011
RAK Medical and Health Sciences University (RAKMHSU) has honored Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, in recognition of the Award’s efforts in supporting the health sector generally and 2nd RAKMHSU student Scientific Conference particularly.
 
Mr. Abdullah Bin Souqat, Executive Director of the award, received a memorial gift from Dr. S. Gurumadhva Rao, Vice chancellor of RAK Medical and Health Sciences University, during the opening ceremony of 2nd RAKMHSU student Scientific Conference which was held last Thursday at the university’s auditorium. The conference was attended by deans of the university’s faculties, teaching staff, administrative officers and students. 
 
Following the inauguration of the Conference, Mr. Abdullah Bin Souqat expressed his happiness with this honor which reflects recognizing efforts exerted by the award in supporting the health sector in UAE generally and students in faculties of medicine particularly, who require paying attention and taking care of them as they represent the nucleus of the prosperous future. 
 
In his opening speech, Bin Souqat pointed out to the importance of the conference which considers a training course for students on how to organize medical conferences and participate in them effectively whether through submitting highly qualified scientific research papers or sharing in their scientific sessions by learning and exchanging experiences and opinions. 
 
Bin Souqat has urged the students on conducting scientific research, as the medical fields witness daily amazing global developments based on new scientific research. "Having highly skilled doctors in the future requires training them on their tools as doctors including recognizing the basics of conducting scientific research papers and understanding the results of existing research", he added. 
 
On the other hand, during his speech in the opening ceremony, Dr. S. Gurumadhva Rao, Vice chancellor of RAK Medical and Health Sciences University, said that he is proud of supporting the conference by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences. "The conference is a unique of its kind in Ras Al Khaimah. It contributes effectively in applying the strategy of RAKMHSU concerning graduating highly qualified medical staff, capable of leading the health sector in the near future", he added.
Dr. Manal M. Sami, Assistant Dean, Student Affairs and head of the Organizing Committee of the Conference, said that the theme of the conference this year is "cardiovascular diseases in UAE", in terms of diagnosis, treatment and awareness plans. More than 40 scientific research papers were discussed in the conference, submitted by about 164 students as lectures and posters under distinguished supervision by the university’s professors.
