Abdullah Bin Souqat, the Executive Director of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, declared that a press conference is going to be held after tomorrow, Thursday, to announce the winners of the 8th term of the award, 2013-2014. The press conference will be held at 11 am at Al Bustan Rotana Hotel, Dubai, in the presence of the award’s members of the Board of Trustees and scientific committees, health officials and media people.

 

The awards to be announced are related to 3 main categories. The first one is the international awards which include Grand Hamdan Award, whose topic for the current term is Drug discovery, Hamdan Award for Medical Research Excellence, on vaccines, targeted therapy and cell therapy, and Hamdan Award for volunteers in humanitarian medical services.

 

The second category is the Arab World Awards, they include Hamdan Award for the best medical College / Institute or center in the Arab world, which is awarded to two prominent institutions in the Arab world, and Hamdan Award for honoring distinguished personalities from the Arab World, and it is awarded to two distinct personalities who dedicated their life to the medical development in the Arab world.

 

Regarding the United Arab Emirates awards, it includes the Hamdan Award for an outstanding clinical Department in the public sector in the UAE and it is awarded to the best two distinct medical departments within the UAE, and Hamdan Award for honoring individuals working in the field of medicine and health, and it is given to prominent Emirati personalities who contributed in enriching the march of the scientific research and the health sectors within the UAE.

 

Abdullah bin Souqat added that H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and the patron of the award, will honor the winners during the award ceremony which will be held on December 15 at the Rashid Hall, the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

 

“The 8th Dubai International Conference for Medical Sciences will be held in conjunction with the ceremony, from 15 until December 17, at Al Bustan Rotana Hotel, Dubai, with the participation of the winners of the international awards including Grand Hamdan award, Hamdan Award for Medical Research Excellence and Hamdan Award for volunteers in humanitarian medical services whose winners participate for the first time in the conference”, he said.

 

“Preparations are going on to hold these important events in accordance with the award’s significant status at the local, regional and international levels”, he added.
