Dr. Ahmed Kazim, known as the first Emirati doctor, dedicated his life to the service and medical care of patients in the UAE and worldwide for more than 50 years.

Dr. Kazim graduated with a medical degree in 1951 from Bombay University. He then moved to Edinburgh, Scotland, to obtain his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) certification in 1958 and then again in England two years later. He moved to Trinidad after receiving his fellowship and served as a senior orthopedic surgeon.

He commenced his practice in Dubai in 1977 as an orthopedic surgeon at Rashid Hospital. He forged an impressive career as a consultant orthopedic surgeon, working at Rashid Hospital and then Dubai Hospital, where he headed the orthopedic department from 1982 until he retired in 2004.

In 2014, Dr. Kazim was named the first Emirati doctor. He was honored among the UAE pioneers to recognize his contributions and status as the first in his field. As a tribute to his legacy and accomplishments in the medical profession, a whole building in Dubai healthcare city was named after him.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions towards medical services as the first Emirati Doctor the Late Dr. Ahmed Kazem is awarded the Hamdan Award for Honoring Individuals Working in the Field of Medicine & Health for the 2021-2022 term.
